New Movie: Fireproof

I got one of those fliers in the mail yesterday. When I was looking through it I saw that there is a new movie coming out from the creators of Facing the Giants. I eagerly went online to see the trailer. I found this widget that would let me embed it on here... so here is the trailer...

I wasn't prepared for the feelings that it would stir in me. This is my initial reaction, and maybe I should hesitate before I just vent...

Frustration. Pain. Anger. Frustration.

When I watch, just this trailer, I think. I did all these things. I tried to be the kind of person that this movie describes. I've been on my face before God, begging Him to give me the love for my husband that I couldn't muster on my own. I received the love. But I haven't received any results.

What do I do with this then? Do I say that this is not true? That doing these things and working on your failing marriage, and making effort where effort isn't received is pointless? No.

A very wise friend tells me repeatedly that you don't do the right things based on results.

When I read the book Love and Respect by Dr. Emmerson Eggerichs, I was encouraged and decided to do what it said. Well, I had already been doing what it said, I just was encouraged by it. I can't do what I believe is the right thing in order to get other people to do what I want them to do (my very poor paraphrase of something I read a year ago.)

All I can say is this. This is a movie. Like books, it "can" depict real life, but is still fiction. What if you try all these things and in 40 days nothing is better. What if you try all these things and in 3 years nothing is better. What if, indeed nothing is better, and everything is worse?

Will you still go on doing what you believe is right regardless? Believing God is still God and is still the King of your life?

This continues to be my challenge. Doing what I believe is right. Believing what I believe God has asked me to do. Yet, still living. Living for Him. Living for my kids. Living because I don't want to lose these years.

I hope that I can see this movie. I LOVED the last movies this company produced. I really want to support these types of quality movies. I just hope that it encourages rather than discourages.

Pam

That trailer gave me goosebumps! Wow, touching.

Are you planning on watching it? I am sure it would be a tough on to sit through!

you know, i've watched the trailer a few times, and I honestly don't know if I can do it. (watch) It looks like a fabulous movie, but I just feel like it would be depressing/discouraging for me. we will see.

I am new to your blog, and I have been reading it periodically throughout the day to get caught up. Thank you for sharing your story. Thank you for expressing your pain and telling us about your Comfortor. Phrases like "fireproof your marriage" often build an assumption that if you do everything you are able to do that it will work out. Life just isn't like that. Christ came to take care of us when the bottom drops out. We can helplessly depend on him when everything we know doesn't make sense and doesn't work. I'm not saying there aren't tools that could help certain parts of marriage, but I want you to know I think it's understandable if you don't go.
